Environmentalist of the Week
Similar to last week's Environmentalist of the Week, local resident Christine Griffin spent her birthday helping the environment. Christine heard about our weekly Powai Lake Cleanups and wanted to help. Even though her birthday landed on the same day this was to take place, it didn't stop her. Simple selfless actions like this are going to turn the future bright. Without dedication from everyone like this, we will never restore our ecosystem.

This week's Environmentalist of the Week
The Environmentalist of the Week goes to Shashi Yadav who celebrated her birthday by planting 50 trees in Powai with the help of Earth5R under ACT Powai project.
Mumbai has lost 60% of its green cover in 40 years, so Shashi decided to help fight this. This is truly an inspiration and a completely selfless act. While most of us would use our birthday to go party or celebrate ourselves, Shashi wanted to make a difference in the community. We could all learn something from this week's Environmentalist of the Week.
“A clean environment is a human right like any other. It is, therefore, part of our responsibility towards others to ensure that the world we pass on is as healthy, if not healthier than we found it .” - Dalai Lama

On Saturday, 12th May, the Earth5R team, along with the Swachhalay team, conducted the third Powai Lake Cleanup. This took place on the banks of the west side of Powai Lake. Swachhalay mobilized a municipality truck so that the garbage we collected could be taken away to be recycled.
We started off with an introduction to ACT Powai and explained the idea behind becoming a green community. Then we handed out gloves and trash bags, and the cleanup began.
This time, many volunteers joined us (about 80-100 people). There ...
A YOUNG SOCIAL CHANGE LEADER
Meet Pavan. He is a 12-year-old local boy who came over to the Powai Lake Cleanup last Saturday, May 5, 2018. He saw the Earth5R team working and he decided to join in. Humbly, Pavan came barefoot, on an empty stomach, but ready to work.
Pavan is homeless and doesn’t have much that would contribute to the pollution problem in Mumbai, however, he was willing to help. Many children, like him, are NOT the reason why Mumbai has so much trash. Yet, they realize the value and importance of being part of the community and accompl...
THE STATE OF THE YAMUNA RIVER
The Earth5R team went to Delhi on March 11, 2018, for various events including meeting the president of France and cleaning up the Yamuna River. Little did they know the extent of the impact they would leave on this community.
After founder of Earth5R, Saurabh Gupta, met with President Macron to discuss strategies for sustainable development, the team gathered 15-20 volunteers and went to the Yamuna River. There, they were shocked to find how utterly lifeless the river looked due to the pollution. The water was dark and there was trash ...
