We build and manage an ecosystem of waste recovery, segregation, recycling with various stakeholders like waste pickers, recyclers, NGOs and municipality.
With the help of local communities and Cleantech Earth5R creates circular economy projects to tackle climate change.
In Nov 2014 Earth5R started as a local sustainability movement in Mumbai and now the organisation operates in 53 countries with the help of citizen volunteers.
Earth5R’s sustainability programs have transformed the lives of 1.2 million underprivileged families while creating environmental, economic and cascading social impact at the local level.
In Nov 2018 the project was selected for the Paris Peace Forum.
In 2021 Earth5R project was selected by UN to be among one of the 300 best sustainability practices around the globe and chosen for 5th Global Entreps Awards, the ‘Oscars of Sustainability’ showcased at the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York in September 2021.

We Create Tangible Impact!
We started in Mumbai but now we have our operations and recycling partners network across India.
We carefully monitor and record all the plastic waste collected and make sure it is recycled and reenters the economy
With a grassroots experience in plastics waste management we know first-hand its toll on nature, the climate, the economy, and our health. There’s no time to waste. It’s a global problem that needs a local solution.
Together, we can achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and protect the world's most vulnerable people and our precious planet.
Business enterprises are economic organs of society and draw on societal resources. A company’s performance must be measured by its Triple Bottom Line contribution to building economic, social and environmental capital towards enhancing societal sustainability.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Be responsible and sustainable business by reducing your environmental plastic footprint.
Earth5R offers a solution to the growing waste crisis by unlocking the hidden value of waste.
We partner with companies committed to environmentally preferred waste management practices. By commissioning stringent audits on all of our partners’ operations, we do everything we can to promote the effective reduction and disposal of plastic waste.
Purchasing offsets is not a license to pollute or maintain the status quo. If we want to succeed, we need to work together for UN Sustainable Development Goals along the way. You can mark your merchandise as a Plastic Neutral Product. You can mention the quantity of plastic that your company offsets in your CSR Reports.
When consumers purchase your products which are made out of recycled plastic, you enable them to be part of your solution. As a company you can successful commit to the issue of Sustainability by steering clear of the term sustainability.
We believe, companies should contribute towards economic sustainability too. Our models provide opportunities in development and environmental protection, as we empower people from the bottom of the pyramid in our circular economy models.
In our Waste Management projects more than 50% of our task force consists of women employees. We also take special considerations in empowering other underrepresented communities.
Studies show that post Covid-19 consumers are eager to support companies that value sustainability and sustainable development.. As a supporter, you will gain access to a wide range of citizen volunteer platforms. It will connect your brand to a generation of environmentally and socially conscious consumers. by empowering them to make sustainable choices through your product.
Multi-stake holder Partnerships
Besides, Earth5R builds multi-stake holder partnerships between local businesses, environmental programs, NGOs, the recycling industry, community beach-clean up, local communities, tourist locations, etc . Earth5R’s initiatives build waste-collecting opportunities, social engagement, and awareness on many levels.

Earth5R’s EPR support program is integrated into the local Circular Economy program. The aim of Earth5R’s supportive Extended Producer Responsibility program is to ensure the recovery and recycling of packaging waste in the most economically efficient and ecologically sound manner.
Under Earth5R’s EPR support program the recovery, sorting and recycling of packaging are done in a decentralised manner in order to reduce the carbon footprint and reduce storage and transportation costs. The cost saved can be passed on to the beneficiaries at the bottom of the pyramid.
Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a strategy designed to promote the integration of environmental costs associated with goods throughout their life cycles into the market price of the products.
Earth5R uses an army of waste pickers working at the grassroots level to leverage the Extended Producer Responsibility program. That way Earth5R’s solid waste management value chain is utilised to make a positive social and environmental impact. Earth5R has several innovative waste recovery and recycling schemes for brands looking for Extended Producer Responsibility program.
It’s important to have strong data collection system to assess impacts of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes. If EPR programs are not adequately controlled or monitored they can affect effective functioning and producer compliance. Weight-based fee structures can lead to a focus on light-weighting, which risks rewarding lighter but less recyclable materials.
EPR measures should incentivise packaging producers towards eco-design.
The growing costs to manage plastics in the environment are becoming more widely understood. The cost of addressing litter and plastic pollution has been increasing. The price tag and logistical challenges of dealing with packaging materials – through collection, recycling, disposal, river, lake and beach cleanup, street cleaning, and outreach and education – are spiralling upward.
A great Extended Producer Responsibility policy could deepen its scope, and strengthen the financial incentives for ecodesign. Economic incentives should be developed to favour circular products and business models, e.g. through harmonised criteria and the further application of modulated fees to support the waste hierarchy and incentivise more environmentally sustainable products.
Waste Management Awareness and Education
Earth5R drives its sustainability project with the help of local communities and local stakeholders, Our programs drive a sustainable change by empowering communities through scientifically designed awareness and education programs that fuel social entrepreneurship, and by building a model of Action, Collaboration and Transformation or ACT Global Project.
Earth5R specialises in sustainable development, with a specific focus on women and economic inclusion.
We work with citizens in meeting needs and addressing sustainability issues that affect their local ecosystem and solving local issue using local resources and solutions.
Earth5R Awareness project ACT Global focus on brings communities together and develops a symbiotic ecosystem. Residential buildings and local businesses move towards zero waste while creating a positive environmental, social and economic impact in the locality.
These hands on awareness programs include solid waste management, sustainable livelihood program for communities, Ecopreneurship, urban gardening and afforestation.
OBJECTIVES OF THE AWARENESS PROGRAMS
The Objectives of the ACT Global project are:
- Mobilize a large group of youth, citizens, businesses and government organizations to collaborate and work together to create sustainable localities.
- Using education to create behavioral changes, circular economy, creation of green jobs and sustainability services.
- Creating products and services at a local level that solve environmental issues while creating social and economic impacts.
- 65,000 citizen Volunteers are currently involved in various sustainability initiatives of Earth5R.
- The project has transformed the lives of 1.2 million families across India with the help of sustainable livelihood, helping to break the chains of poverty and address the lack of basic resources that affect their lives.
- .5 Million families from slums across India educated in livelihood skills so far. This includes skill training workshops in converting environmental waste into usable products that sell in the market.
- 2,70,000 families in slums and villages across India received Financial literacy under this project.
- 1,700 residential buildings in various cities of India have been converted into Zero Waste under this project.
- More than 250 Metric Tons of Plastic Waste is collected every month and recycled under Earth5R’s ACT Project at Mumbai.
- 600 Tons of Organic Waste per month is processed by Composting Units installed in various buildings in cities across India under this project creating a citizen-led decentralized waste management system.
Charity is not sustainable as it depends on donors and is not self-dependents. Considering India’s current social problems including poverty, increasing population and inequality, we need engines that are self-powered, the power that comes from a sustainable source.

The ACT Global project presents a bottom-up approach for the green economy. The project works for long lasting transformational changes in the community. Due to its decentralized nature, ACT Global makes sure that after an ACT activity is complete, the community has become self-reliant in terms of its livelihood, waste management and energy efficiency. This proves that a bottom-up approach for the green economy is more sustainable and scalable. Governments can adopt the local ACT Global model to combat climate change in an efficient manner.
