Earth5R volunteers went to a nursery school in Powai to raise awareness among young children about the waste issue under the ACT Powai project, negatively impacting the environment in which they grow-up. This activity was supported by Swiss Airlines Staff Foundation.
Earth5R volunteers engaged children, who were restless after a long day of school. Using simple understandable terms for children, volunteers explained the different types of waste, how to segregate, why it is important, and the benefits of such actions. The children then were motivated to come forth and speak about what they had learned and understood in the workshop.
This way we are building young environmental leaders who will boost our mission and lead a sustainable future. Not only teaching children the good civic gestures but also making them leaders and actors of change at such a young age is the key to transform our society. Children not only learn and integrates these good attitudes but tend to influence their peers and relatives.
Indeed, back at home, they can tell others why, how, and what to do to improve their living conditions. If not immediately, the change happens with the next generation, when their own children follow their model as parents. Therefore, conscious children multiply the results of our awareness campaign. It increases the chances to modify the harmful habits of a whole society, to change cultural patterns of current and future generations.
