Recycling Paper With The Preteens Of Mumbai By Earth5R
324 litres of water is used to make 1 kilogram of paper and 10 liters of water is needed to make one piece of A4 paper. If all our newspapers were recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year and massive amount of litres of water!
Shocking, isn’t it? So was Shubha Sagar from Earth5R Mumbai and she decided to do something about it!
On September 12, 2015, she gathered a bunch of enthusiastic kids at a residential area in Borivali East, Mumbai to continue with the activity on Recycling paper to create eco-friendly paper bags. The dull weather and drizzle did not dampen the spirit of the group and the kids arranged mats to sit and they started the activity in a garage.
There were some regular participants who have been doing paper recycling activity with Shubha Sagar while some more joined in. The highlights of the activity were Ayush Samant, Tisya Soneta and Drishti Kakkar.
Since they already had 25 recycled paper bags from the previous week, adding another 26 made during the week, a total of 51 bags were collected. They decided impromptu to make booklets from left-over papers and a total of 18 booklets along with a few more paper bags were made. The gang of future environmentalists did a great job!
