Ouided Bouchamaoui, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate (2015), is a Tunisian business leader and peacebuilder who has played a historic role in her nation’s democratic journey.

She was the first woman President of the Tunisian Confederacy of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts. She Co-founder The Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet. Ouided played a historic and legendary role in helping her country navigate through a great time of crisis during the Arab spring.

Ms. Bouchamaoui is also Member of the Oslo Business for Peace Award Committee since January 2016.

Mrs. Ouided Bouchamaoui declined thrice the offer to become Prime Minister, wishing to retain her independence, and to work to achieve social stability and help foster economic development in Tunisia. In January 2015, the Tunisian President, Mr. Beji Caid Essebsi made her Grand Officer of the Order of the Republic, and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, decorated her with the Royal Order of the Polar Star in November 2015.

Nobel Peace Prize and the Tunisian Quartet

In 2015, Ouided Bouchamaoui and three fellow organisations formed the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet, a coalition that helped pull Tunisia back from political crisis after the Arab Spring. Their work created a framework for dialogue that enabled the country to adopt a new constitution and hold democratic elections. For this historic achievement, the Quartet was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2015, with Bouchamaoui as one of its central figures.

Her Nobel acceptance stressed the importance of compromise, dialogue, and trust in building peace — values that remain cornerstones of her philosophy.

Global Advocacy and Leadership

Beyond Tunisia, Ouided Bouchamaoui has become a leading voice for democracy, peacebuilding, and women’s empowerment. She has delivered lectures at institutions such as NYU Abu Dhabi and contributed to Harvard Business School’s Creating Emerging Markets project, where she outlined the role of business leaders in advancing democratic values.

Her advocacy highlights how economic stability, social responsibility, and political dialogue are inseparable in building strong nations.
