EarthTalk – St. Andrews College Mumbai India

In another stimulating EarthTalk session with the students of St.Andrew’s college at Bandra, Team Earth5R took the opportunity to discuss with them, the economics of climate change. The students were given an insight on how global economic forces are affecting climate change, which is also the cause of growing pollution in developing countries.

Saurabh Gupta, the speaker, had lots of statistical data ready to be demonstrated to the students, that increased the impact on them tenfold.

The murmurs of discussion among students increased as they were surprised to see a majority of Indian cities present in the list of the most polluted cities of the world.

Having been a part of the corporate world himself in the past, Saurabh narrated his own story of his decision to quit the world of stress and how he achieved his blissful demeanor by practising inner sustainability.

The atmosphere turned lighter as students had a good laugh while Saurabh ran them through the slides of what one expects from the corporate world compared to what one actually gets.

Students also signed a pledge to the government which requested them to include the 5 urban values- Respect,Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Restore into the school curriculum as there is an urgent need of an environmental value system.

A professor at the college was taken by surprise as she realized that the people working on the Earth5R team were students themselves. She said, “I am happy to see such young people working towards this cause along with their college. This will surely motivate our own students as well, to see people their age in the team.”

The talk ended with a good response from the students and the team already found themselves surrounded by students full of creative ideas waiting to be discussed.
