A Simple Dose Of Inspiration: Clean Up At Thane By Earth5R

A two-member team of Earth5R, Sagar Kulkarni and Nikita Shrawagi undertook this clean-up drive at the Vivekanand Balashram Lane, Yeoor Hills in Thane, India under I’m Earth on 16th July 2015.

Yeoor is a location in Thane district in Maharashtra that lies in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The clean and green atmosphere is the main attraction of these hills and it has converted it into a perfect tourist spot. As a result of an increase in the number of people, littering has become quite a problem.

The team cleaned up the entire Vivekanand Balashram Lane in the Yeoor Hills which led to a children’s orphanage. The clean up drive included picking up garbage thrown on the sides of the road and collecting it in a common bag. Then the bag was disposed at an area which is accessed by garbage pickup trucks/ garbage cleaners.

The activity was simple and easily executed. It taught the team that every small green step we take counts. It was also observed that when people see you engaged in positive action, they automatically join in.
