Way To A Sustainable Lifestyle Via The Home Equals Planet Project

CO2 emissions per capita for India is around 1.94 metric tons. Carbon Footprint of a person tells about the total greenhouse gas emission caused by an individual.

By reducing the carbon footprint of an individual, a lot of environmental problems can be solved and can create an impact on the environment as a collective effort.

Due to the COVID situation, work from home is the new normal and people are getting comfortable with the idea of staying at home. Also, with so many environmental issues to be solved, it can be overwhelming for the people to understand which steps to take, that can help the environment and their surroundings. Keeping this in mind, Earth5R came up with their HOME EQUALS PLANET project.

This program not only guides people step by step on how they can reduce the waste generated by them but also helps them practice sustainable living.

Taking the initiative to change the world for the better, all the volunteers at Earth5R are conducting training to spread awareness. The HOME EQUALS PLANET Program consists of 15 Actions that focus on bringing change at the root level as people are more likely to adopt practices that are more convenient, but highly effective.

After the training sessions, people get highly motivated and start practicing the ideology.

Pritha, for instance, is a civil engineer who took up environmental engineering side by side.

Over 60% of the trash that ends in the dustbin could be recycled or reused.

Pritha made the rug out of old saree & gown, pillows with old tops and reused a soft drink bottle as a decorator.

Pritha Kushwaha: After attending the Home Equals Planet training, I realised that keeping our planet clean is as important as keeping our homes clean. I have started practicing reusing and upcycling a lot more.

The waste going to landfills from my house has drastically reduced. I also trained my family so we can work as a unit to practice waste segregation, energy conservation and try using more green commutes.

I will also train youngsters from my college or society. I would like to pass this training to elders as well so that they can pass this practice to their generation, as children will become more responsible seeing their elders taking initiative towards the environment.

Aman Ashish is one of the many other citizen volunteers trained under Earth5R’s HOME EQUALS PLANET project.

Aman is an engineering student from Cochin, South India and has been inclined towards a sustainable lifestyle. He also practices farming and composting.

Aman in his garden practiced growing his own food to reduce transportation and packaging cost.

8% of greenhouse gases heating the planet are caused by food waste.

Over 5 million tonnes of food ends up as landfill, enough to fill 9,000 Olympic sized swimming pools.

Aman Ashish: “I was practicing a sustainable lifestyle myself but couldn’t find a way to educate people more about it. But with Earth5R’s training method via HOME EQUALS PLANET Program, I can reach out to people with a basic set of steps that they can easily inculcate in their lifestyle.

The new thing that I learnt is about investments. I was unaware of the fact that how even investing money in shares, banks etc can help the environment sector. I would love to research more on this and will teach my father about the same.

This will make sure that in future I make responsible investments that can benefit the green sector companies and the environment as well. ”

HOME EQUALS PLANET Action 15

This Program focuses on the holistic growth of each individual focussing on Health, reducing emission, waste & water, circular economy and social impact.

The Home Equals Planet program is created, keeping in mind the importance of bringing a long term impact by bringing lifestyle changes and working on very basic shifts to apply easily in your life. It is the need of the hour to do mindful consumption and take conscious actions.

Therefore to give a fresh perspective on sustainable development, 15 Actions are designed which are simple and achievable by everyone who believes in bringing a change and cares for their environment.

If every citizen will be able to inculcate these changes in their lifestyle, not only the person will be affected but there will be a huge impact on the environment. The idea is to start from HOME and take it to global level.

Greener is Cleaner

Waste not Wasted

But seen as Resource

To Be Recycled, Reused or Repaired

Thrive on the food grown and cooked at Home

Support Slow(Sustainable) not Fast Fashion

And Invest in the Green sectors

To make this world Better

For who mothered us is Nature

And she will only secure our Future

Let our actions be Conscious not Obnoxious

Let our Economy be Circular not Linear

A revolution to bring evolution

For our Planet is our Home
