Clean-Up Drive At Gandhinagar By Earth5R

The garbage that is dumped around our residence is the major cause of diseases like gastrointestinal and stomach pain, diarrhoea, cholera, respiratory allergies and skin diseases which are very common in children below 12 years of age.

To act on such an alarming yet an oft ignored issue, Harshit Dave, Ishit Patel and Ketul Patel from Earth5R conducted a clean-up drive at Gandhinagar on 11th October, 2015. They took up a spot near a residential area in Sector 23, Gandhinagar.

As the team started the clean-up, they figured that place had layers of waste. It was layered with plastic and worn out clothes, which seemed to have been lying there for a very long time. It took the team more than 90 minutes to clean up a major chunk of garbage.

In total, 3 bags full of waste was collected, that amounted to nearly 15 kilograms, and was dumped in the nearest garbage box. A few people from the nearest residence approached the team and appreciated their effort to conduct a clean-up drive. The activity sent a clear message advocating “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” to the people who saw them working from their houses.
